OK, just go tthe PUPPET MASTER BOX SET. I've begun watching them in chronological order (Retro, III, I, II, IV, V, Curse). So here is a brief review thingy of RETRO PUPPET MASTER (I'll post reviews of the others as I watch them).
First, the acting of the secondary characters is terrible. The line delivery is down right horrid, and the cast is very wooden. The two lead characters, Toulon and Elsa, are decently portrayed, and when compared to the rest of the cast they are just wonderfully portrayed.
Second, Audio. I don't know what format the audio is in, it doesn't say on the packaging. It does sound a little muffled in places, but that may be how it was originally recorded since I'd never seen the original VHS copies.
Finally video. YUCK! While the indoor shots are ok (but not very sharp), the outdoor shots are full of artifacts and not very good looking. They look like something shot on a Sony TR7000 digital 8mm camcorder (and I speak from experience on that one).

Aside from Retro and Curse, the boxed set was cool. Retro is interesting but stupid. Curse is just a remake of the movie Sssss! that starred Dirk Benedict (The A-Team, Battlestar Galactica). They just replaced the snakes from Sssss! with puppets, making it nearly a scene for scene remake. Unfortunately bad acting and the re-use of footage from previous movies (for SFX scenes) was lame.
