This is a great DVD, one of the best b&w transfer I've seen.
As for the movie, this is pretty good too. James Cameron must have studdied this movie closely before making Titanic, some scenes are very similar (of course the story is the same, without the love story element). There is some historical inaccuracies but nothing serious.
So if you are interested by the Titanic story, go for it.

LJS,
Blast it your right!
James Cameron's an outright, unabashed crook!
A Night to Remember: the ship hits an iceburg.
Titanic: the ship hits an iceburg!
A Night to Remember: the ship sinks.
Titanic: the ship sinks!
A Night to Remember: there aren't enough lifeboats and most of the passengers drown/freeze to death.
Titanic: there aren't enough lifeboats and the passengers drown/freeze to death!
I guess if you make a movie that grosses a $1 billion dollars they'll let you get away with anything in Hollywood!

Just having some fun with you! Welcome to the board!

James Cameron didn't study nor take anything from ANTR, both movies did a good job of following the real incident, they would be identical in some ways. Plus, Cameron used Titanic historians as technical advisors on the set.

nobody ever gave any new opinions on this flick so i went ahead & got it in a trade. watched it last night & it is great.
the transfer is fabulous & the sound, though mono, is clear & bright. great movie as well. i enjoyed Titanic but this movie is great b/c it seems like more of a documentary & not fictional cheesy love story.
some of the scenes in this movie were lifted almost frame by frame 40 years later in Titanic! cant wait to watch the documentary & commentary for this disc. definite must buy if you are a fan of the film or a Titanic fanatic.

This is an excellent DVD indeed. The one criticism that I would give is that the Commentary is from 1995. These two guys from the titanic historical society say so many things that in light of 1997's Titanic had me biting my tongue. I think the absolute best version of this film would be the same as it is currently, with a added commentary track where the same dudes revisit the film and offer some more thoughts in the year 2000 A.T. (after Titanic). It would be fasinating to here a more thurough comparison and to find out which film they prefer.
