First, Wolf Man. The restoration is good, the picture quality looks very nice, but I think the sound could be better. Overall a good job by Universal. Both the film historian commentary and the documentary are loaded with great facts about Lon Chaney jr and the making of the film.
Both Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein are fantastic restoration jobs by Universal. Frankenstein has a couple of bad spots, but it is because they added in deleted scenes and the only elements that could be found were in horrible condition. Other than that both films look and sound fantastic. Again they both have incredible film historian commentaries and documentaries loaded with facts about the history of the films and the people involved.
Dracula is by far the best job done by Universal. The film itself is a beautiful restoration job and the have also included as an option a wonderful score by Phillip Glass that goes great with the film. On top of that is the Spanish version of the film that is actually better IMO. Add in the good film historian commentary and documentary and you have a great package.
The Mummy was my least favorite. The restoration does not seem as good as the other films. The sound barely seems restored at all. The film historian commentary is one of the worst commentaries I have ever heard and not worth bothering with. It is a great film though and has a nice documentary.
As far as the movies go, all are very good. Bride is by far the best written and acted of the Universal monster films. Wolf Man was a little silly at times, but had a great cast and some very memorable moments. Frankenstein and Dracula are both classics and influenced films for years to come. Karloff's performance in the Mummy was also excellent and made the film a classic.
They all also include trailers, still picture and movie poster archives, etc. If you are a fan of classic horror definitly buy them all. I can't do a review of Creature because I don't think it has been released yet.
Hope this helps.
