Let me say, that I love South Park, but I'm not a fan per se. In fact, I only like the movie and haven't seen many of the more recent episodes. So when I heard that Troma had picked up Matt and Trey's first feature I was intrigued. Now nearly three years later I finally seen the film and after months of delays I now own the DVD.

The movie reminds me of Ravenous. If your a Southpark fan don't expect a movie equivalent. Instead, the film is a spoof of old fashion musicals(in particular Oklahoma, as noted in the commentary). It's based on the true story of Alfred Packer, the only man convicted of cannibalism in America. There are plenty of jokes and some of them are really funny while others are amusing but flat. The low budget does not really hurt the film and I was pretty impressed by the film. There are some nice shots, beautiful scenery, and the shabby costumes just add to humor. The film could have been funnier had they tightened up the pace and cut the slower scenes(even they agreed on the commentary).

As a Troma DVD, this is one of the best they ever put out. Presented full frame, the picture is surprisingly good and sharp. They are occasional flaws as expected but, the final product shows huge leaps of improvement over past Troma releases. Amidst the ususl Troma supplements(troma tour, trivia, product ads) there are a retrospective featurette, an intro by Lloyd Kaufman, some behind the scenes clips, and gem of the disc the commentary. Ah the commentary, probably the funniest and most entertaining since Mallrats. I just wish they added a video option. Matt Stone, Trey Parker, Dian Bachar, and others are present but, what separates this from other commentaries is loads of liquor. They start sober, but by the end of the film they are plastered, beligerent, mumbling, angry, farting on one another, and screaming nonsensical ramblings. A true classic track.

Ulitmately, I like this better then Orgazmo and Baseketball. As a disc it's probably the best disc Troma produced. It was worth the purchase just for the commentary alone.

Excellent, excellent, excellent movie. You can't go wrong with this movie. Orgazmo is still funnier. Then, BASEketball.

I wish Reel would ship it sometime this year.

I thought I was the only one getting pissed at Reel about this one. DVD Express has had theirs for almost 2 weeks. I got one of those CSR's in a chat and mentioned that DVD Express had theirs (for about 4 days at that time), and they told me "DVD Express' buisness practices are not our concern". Huh?

Blackstar. It was cheap too. And they have free international shipping.

Go to my page (http://www.geocities.com/regionfree) and go to the retail links, then to the region 2 PAL links. Happy shopping!

Also keep in mind that you MUST have a way to display both a region 2 disc and the PAL signal. If you own an Apex, or mod your computer player, you're cool...
