I thought this movie was horrible, it reminded me of The Exorcist in some ways. I posted a while back that Reel.com posted reviews of this movie in which Roger Ebert bashed it. I thought it was funny because his review points are higher than most others. I waited the whole movie for something unexpected or "cool" to happen, to bad nothing ever did. I recommend getting The Sixth Sense or The Exorcist for that matter. BTW, if you want another good movie then get SLC Punk, it is a really really really good movie.

"Stigmata" was the worst movie I saw in the theaters last year (and second worst movie of last year overall after "The Haunting"). I got dragged to the theater by a friend who was dying to see it. We both hated it. In fact, we started making fun of the movie when we realized how lousy it was going to be. Unfortuantely, this movie is so bad that you soon grow tired of mocking it. You just become paralyzed by its sheer awfulness. The script is awful, the direction is hideous, and Patricia Arquette once again proves that she is one of the worst acrtors working today.
Heck! "Fight Club" was better than this garbage!

One of those 'so bad it's good movies' - there was plenty of parts where I couldn't help but laugh out loud. If you are expecting the movie they advertised it to be, you will be disappointed.

DumDum took the words out of my mouth. Definitely a MTV generation hack director who wanted to borrow from The Exorcist but have it different but in the end it totally fails.

The movie topic was interesting but the execution was an absolute stinker. Add it to the list of "scary" movies that sucked in 1999.

mcifani,
I can tell your real close to god, since you called others and myself fools. I also except god in my life and have good values (heck I have never smoked, did drugs, etc.) but I wouldn't call someone a fool based on their opinion of the movie. I agree it doesn't exactly compare to the sixth sense, but both deal with the supernatural. I agree with El Pollo that the topic was interesting but the movie failed to execute. Like I said, I was waiting for something unexpected to happen or something "cool" but nothing ever did. If you know what Stigmata means before the movie you expect what happened to happen. The movie is very slow in developing, bad character buildup and some things were interpreted wrong.
This edit is for El Pollo, what movie is that line from in your signature. It is funny as poop but I can't remember what movie.

Thanks The Zizz, I was in English class tonight and my friend kept saying "Riiiight". I asked him if he got that from Austin Powers; he said no and that he hasn't seen either of the two. That's when I remembered that line and associated it with Austin Powers. Anyhow, thanks to you and DodgingCars for his reference. One last thing, if you haven't seen SLC Punk then you better see it! hehe
P.S. Ms. Humpalot--"You are hairy like animal." Austin Powers--"GRRRR baby, very GRRRR!"

This is why i hate this, people listen to people in this forum and don't order a dvd.. DONT LISTEN TO people in here about a movie, watch it yourself and decide!!! DVDjunkie21, please don't tell me what i am, or not.. just because someone calls another person a fool or whatever name, doesn't mean they don't have good values, you have no right to judge me because of one thing i said... You either like this movie or hate it i guess, I though it was very well made, for the people who disliked this movie, please post movies that you did like, I'm very interested in what movies you like since this stigmata WAS SO AWFUL... True stigmata was no Ben Hur, but it was a very good reglious movie, and it truly did scare me.. unlike that piece of crap exorcist, or other cheezy horror flicks.. this movie actually got deep within you.

Calm down, mcifani. I'm not going to listen or respect anyone's opinion here, I simply asked what they thought it, since I never got a chance to see it. Just because I don't care what you think, its still okay to be curious.

NOFX, regardless of what you think.. if everyone in here said one thing.. you'd be more geared toward that view, even if you keep telling yourself that everyones idea of how the movie is doesn't matter to you.. If in all honestly you could care less what people said about something, why would you post a topic on how others liked this movie? I mean.. you gota admit what people in here will have some affect on if you buy, rent, or even watch this movie,,,
reliquary--
""Well I'm crossing Stigmata off of my "want to pre-order" list. Thanks for saving me money guys.
See, maybe this topic didn't effect you.. but now this guy won't buy this movie, because of what people said in here, and now hes going to miss a movie that HE might of really enjoyed and might of touched him.

Just because someone has done drugs in there life, drank, smoked, whatever, .. has nothing to do with there values, also.. no matter how someone acts or talks, has nothing to do with there relationship with there GOD, and gives no one any right to judge them..

Believe it or not...that statement is absolutely NOT true. Sure i'll come here and read about what people thought of this movie and that one and so on. But it will NOT affect me in buying, renting, or even watching it.
Of course some people feel that same too, but you need to go out there and see it for yourself. So you can regret it yourself. Then later, you will come back on here and rant, of how you can't get your money or hours back, blah blah blah. I forgot what my point was.

I really liked this movie alot.. You guys have to post in detail what you didn't like about this movie, why it was SILLY. Not trying to keep fighting over this, just wondering why do you NOT like this movie in detail. Personally I really enjoyd this movie for many reasons. Probably one of them was the creepyness of the movie, how can anyone watch this movie and not get scared? but not scared by blood, even though that was a factor.. but because the movie was so real, also strong dialogue and exceptional performances from both Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne as the woman and the priest. ! And what's with all these comments about it supposedly being scary?? That's not the point of the movie! It isn't to scare you like a horror flick! It's a movie that has many undertones that you wouldn't actually know if you weren't paying attention or if you were ignorant of what was being spoken of. If you people truly have open minds, you'd actually try and understand what the movie's trying to point out more than the externalities and the flare of what you expected it to be.
The only downside to this movie, is the ending which is typical of Hollywood manipulation. Like i said above, if you look beyond this part, you will watch a movie that will truly touch you, and personally after watching this movie I just sat there in aw for atleast 5 mins while the credits where rolling with my friend, and thought about my whole life, and the way I live and somehow forgot about my values and my beliefs! It's great and, in addition, makes you think very much about the Catholic church- the institution, the faith and its future. And makes you question to yourself: how's my faith these days...?

mcifani,
What the poop are you talking about? You obviously have no idea what your talking about when you said..."Just because someone has done drugs in there life, drank, smoked, whatever, .. has nothing to do with there values, also.. no matter how someone acts or talks, has nothing to do with there relationship with there GOD, and gives no one any right to judge them. How you act and talk is the basis of your relationship with god and good values. It a sin to drink to get drunk, curse or act badly towards another human being. Just because you believe their is a god doesn't mean anything. You have to act towards his will and what he sees fit. I suggest you read a little of the bible, that way your before mentioned quote doesn't haunt you. Also, from looking at your old posts you either complain, say a smart remark or ask for help but you never give any[/b]. In half your posts your criticizing others based on their views.
I am sure your just posting to argue with people so I feel I have addressed this topic enough.

First off sir, your the first one to start this fight.. You took what I said way to serious, if someone in this forum called someone a fool, and went off like you did you have some sort of problems, and I'd hate to see you real life if someone said something to you!!! Don't take people so serious, lighten up a bit!!
Second, Who are you to SAY what god wants, or how we should act? How do you even know who my GOD IS? Sir you have no right to say these things.. are you saying a man that has killed someone cannot have the forgiveness of our lord? Or someone who has a serious drug abuse problem, who prays everynight for forgivness and inner help from god to kick the habbit, can't have forgivness or be accepted by god? Are you saying a man who must steal everynight to put food on his table so his family doesn't starve to death, but yet still prays for help and a way to get a job everynnight to the lord, won't be accepted by god? You sir have no idea what god is all about if you think because you did something in the past, or are curently doing something against his will that you are not accepted by him.. Remember we our humans? God didn't make us perfect, even some of the most reglious people in the world have sinned, or sin on a day to day basis, its our faith in god and knowing that jesus died for our sins that helps us become better people each day..
How can you say a person that drinks a few beers on a sunday football game doesn't have values? Or someone that had a few joints in high school doesn't have values? Just because you never where around these types of people in high school, maybe you where to busy with getting good grades, and studying all weekend.. but almost every high schooler has sampled some sort of drug.. and just because they have, that makes them a bad person? or not have good values? values has nothing to do with substance abuse, its your general outlook on life.. How you treat other people, how you do you things day to day, just because you drink a few beers or smoked a few joints has nothing to do with values!!

Hey, all of you arguing, idiot, demon/god worshiping, drunks, drug addicts, straight-edgers, Save it for 'religious talk' or some other crazy forum. Yeah the movie is religious based, but its not like its Jesus of Nazereth. This is for movie reviews, not your religious beliefs and intolerances of others' beliefs. Grow up.
By the way, I thought it sucked (Potential, but ruined by 'MTV', bad acting, and its not being very scary)
