I was at Costco today, and I was toiling about whether to buy The Haunting or Entrapment (both the same price)... Which would you guys get?

I thought the story of Entrapment was better, but Haunting had better effects, etc...

I ended up buying Entrapment, but I still have time 2 exchange it...

WHICH SHOULD I GET?

I have both and if I had to choose one over the other I'd settle on Entrapment. Better story, more rewatchability, and more CZ-Jones. I dont understand all the bad reviews, I really enjoyed this film. Granted you have to suspend all disbelief but you have to do that in most films anyway.

Keep it, pop it in and enjoy. It goes down like a smooth brandy.

A word of warning. I believe someone here mentioned that Entrapment was going to be re-released with extras as CE/SE. I f that's the case you should probably wait on that one. In my opinion it was an O.K. movie, even though it had Miss Jones in it. The Haunting I have not seen so I cannot comment on it.

Although I'm in the minority, I happened to enjoy both of these films . . . I guess Catherine Zeta-Jones was a big reason!!!

If you're comparing the DVD quality, "The Haunting" is without a doubt the better disc. It's a Signature Selection from Dreamworks and it features a great transfer, good extras, and probably one of the best sounding DVDs available . . . the bass is solid!!!

As for the movies, I prefer "Entrapment". It definitely has more potential for multiple viewings . . . the laser scenes alone!!! However, it's not anamorphic.

What's up with the rumors of a Collector's Edition of "Entrapment" . . . Is this true???

Good extras? The extras on Hanting blow. The worst of any Signature Disc from Dreamworks.

I thought The Haunting was really bad, while Entrapment was pretty good. THe girl in Entrapment alone is enough to keep me entertained. I think you made the right decision in buying Entrapment.

Go with Entrapment, in my opinion the Haunting was the worst movie of the year.

Boy, I personally didn't like either movie. Once again...always a matter of taste and expectations. But if forced to choose between the two, I'd definitely go with Entrapment over the Haunting.

I’d rather be hit in the head with a golf club than watch these lame excuses for entertainment again. As I said in a previous thread, based on this evidence, Catherine Zeta Jones’ main skillsmust lie somewhere else other than in her acting abilities.

I thought the sound in "The Haunting" was reason alone to watch the DVD. Good thing, too, because the movie was simply godawful. Entrapment got Fox's typical piss-poor DVD treatment, and the movie itself pretty much blew in my opinion (unfortunately I am the not so proud owner of this DVD, sight unseen and disappointed). In other words, skip em both, IMO...

Any movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones is worth watching just because she's in it! Entrapment was much better than the Haunting though..

I've never seen Entrapment but anything is better than The Haunting. The absolute worst movie of 1999.

I rented both of these movies first before deciding if I wanted to buy them or not.

Entrapment was okay, but it really drug and seemed to take a long time to get nowhere. I am a huge Connery fan, but this one just didn't click with me.

After watching The Haunting, I ended up going out and buying it. It's not the greatest, but overall it is a very enjoyable and watchable film. It kept you guessing what was going to happen next. The special effects were great, especially the sound. Lots of solid bass. The acting was a little above average, no award winning performances here. The set (Hill House) was awesome.

The Haunting, althouth truly not a great movie, was an animation delight to behold. And as commented by others, has great sound. I especially found it appealing with the discounted price Office Depot gave after matching Circuit City's ad a few weeks ago. Both movies are entertaining in their own right. I'd keep Entrapment and watch for another sale somewhere on The Haunting then head over to Office Depot

I have to agree with the minority and say that I actually enjoyed The Haunting. I don't know why people hated it so much. The DVD format really brings it to life to with AWESOME sound. I wasn't that impressed with Entrapment. It seemed like a James Bond rip off with many unbelievable scenes in it. I guess if I was expecting that kind of fake stuff (parachuting down a huge vent shaft???) then I might have enjoyed it more.

You really have to question why people read a topic that says Entrapment of the Haunting, which one to get, then come in and post neither. Ok, maybe I'm overreacting, but it seem along the lines of the same stupidity people show with Star Wars topics. They read the title that says Star Wars in big letters, yet come in and post something along the lines of Star Wars sucks. That's was helpful. (note sarcasm). The man put out two titles to choose from, so choose one:

I choose Entrapment. You already bought it, and I'd keep it

I own both these titles, and while neither is really very good, I'd give up Entrapment before The Haunting. In terms of special effects, sound, visuals, etc., The Haunting is a better DVD, and therefore more interesting to watch over and over. Entrapment is probably a slightly better story, but to me it doesn't hold up under repeated viewing.

Return it and get Mask of Zorro. If you already got it then return Entrapment and watch Mask of Zorro again. Just what I would do.

I agree with most of the people here that "The Haunting" was the biggest piece of crap I had ever seen. I wouldn't buy the DVD version even if it had a "step-by-step" making of movie, a complete digital transfer, and was brought to you in 3D. The only way I would ever buy the DVD is if it had a Catherine Zeta nude scene (and even that is pushing it). This movie just shows you that Jan De Bont's Speed must have been some kind of fluke on a short list of crappy movies. "Entrapment" on the other hand was surprising. I was really expecting to hate it but it turned out to be more entertaining than I thought it would. I would have added it to my DVD collection but there are better movies. Although I am infatuated with Catherine Zeta Jones, I chose to buy "The Thomas Crown Affair" instead of one of her movies.
