Should I buy 'The Rock'?

Hey,
I've never seen The Rock, but I'm an action fan and I loved movies like Con Air and Air Force One... I'm wondering if I should buy the rock... Does it have any cool extras (I'm also into filmmaking so a behind-the-scenes would be cool)... Thanx,
-Sam

I have The Rock on DVD, though I've never watched it on DVD. I've seen the film several times (once in theaters) and based on your choices above, I'd defintely recommend The Rock for you. Not much in the way of extras though, only a trailer

No point in getting the Buena Vista version now. Especially with the Criterion one supposedly in the works. I have the BV DVD, because it's one of my favorite action movies. I got the disc back two years ago when I knew nothing about anamorphic and what not.
Rent it while you wait for the Criterion version. If there's one thing it's got, is lots of kick ass action.

Arrrgh.
Just ordered it and the SE one is coming out? I wish I knew that earlier, I guess thats what you get when you go on instinct and don't research anything. Oh well, I used the 50% off Vstore discount so maybe I'll sell the regular version and get the SE one later.

LOL!
BTW, "The Rock" comes on (for like the fifth time in the last 12 months) this weekend on ABC. If you want to save a couple of bucks off renting, check it out. You'll get to see the mangled, pan and scanned, censored version in all its crappiness. Without the widescreen, all the quick pans and cuts are at the point of unwatchable in my eyes.
I love the movie, but it's painful to watch in pan&scan.

Ken2,
Don't feel too bad. I've been waiting for the Criterion version to come out for at least half a year now.
And it still hasn't been officially announced yet either.
Luckily, I have plenty of movies to watch while I wait!

Will the Criterion edition be anamorphic? If not, then you might as well buy the current edition. The Criterion LD had a very interesting commentary and a nice featurette on proper gun use but I would not pay an extra $15 for the two. The LD also had a history docu on alcatraz.
And Razor, if you liked Con Air then you'll love The Rock. Very action packed and in the same intense style. The Rock has more action and is more serious than Con Air. Con Air is more over-the-top and funnier. I liked Con Air more because it doesn't take itself so seriously.
More replay value.

When in doubt, rent it first. Unless you can get it cheaper by purchasing the movie!

Sorry, I was just trying to be funny.
I'll try to come up with something new for the next 50 messages or so.
