I received this DVD Monday, and I have watched it 2 times. This is one of my favorite movies, and it will be watched many more times.
I will not critique the movie, other than saying, this is one of the great comedies of all time. If you like comedy, this film is a must see.
I was very pleasantly surprised with the transfer. Remember, this movie is 66 years old. It is probably the best we are ever going to see. Columbia has done yeoman work in cleaning up the film. It is a far better transfer than the laser disc. The blacks are vivid (generally), and the contrast is excellent. There is some softness, but it in no way detracts from the film. The speckling is, for the most part, gone.
If you want to see on-screen chemistry between actor and actress, this film is the one to see.

I remember seeing this in my film history class, so I ordered it a few days ago. I think that we rarely get disapointed by Columbia's transfers, even if the film is as old as this one. They were also very generous to include all of this extra material on the disk!

Mine's in the mail. Thanks for the review of the DVD. Glad to hear it is positive.
I was willing to give up the T-shirt on my back for this one.

Thanks for the review, classicman.
Mine arrived the other day but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet (my boyfriend made me watch Carlito's Way last night.)
I was really surprised by the amount of supplemental material on this disc. Usually on older films, most studios skimp on this stuff.
I just used my LAST Reel coupon to pre-order "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." I hope Columbia does a good job on that disc as well.
