Well, after I found out that it was being re-released, I decided to open my shrink-wrapped copy and watch it for the first time...
All I can say is "wow". I'll be damned if Gene Hackman got robbed for an oscar. His intensity and emotion alone should be used as a lesson for all coaches. This film is THE basis for ALL sports movies. It inspires the competitive spirit and proves winning is not the important thing of all. It is the journey to that win.
I learned something else tonight: Don't buy a dvd because it's out of print and it's worth money.
Buy a dvd and watch it.
Enjoy it.
I feel fortunate that I didn't sell this golden gem of a film, yet a little sad, I knew this was sitting on my shelf for almost a year sealed and unwatched...
Same thing for all you criterion Killer/Spinal Tap hoarders out there...
