I saw the real version(unrated) on VCD, and thought it was great.
"Demons & Schoolgirls" was how someone put it in the dvd bargin forum.
The animation was very good, IMHO.
As for getting the R rated version, I can't tell you how much has been cut.

Curious... I just bought vol. 1 (Legend of the Overfiend) from Reel a couple of months back. I wonder how the new release will differ from the one I have.
As far as the film goes, it's quite good. Be aware that it is more or less on the bleeding edge of extreme anime - lots of rape and schoolgirl fantasies. By some standards it's probably quite offensive.
That said, I thought the animation was excellent (although Ghost in the Shell it ain't), the story was interesting, and the quality of the transfer was perfectly acceptable.
The movie was in 4X3 format, although it might have been originally done that way. I suppose that's a question for someone more ambitious than me to answer.
Anywho, just my two cents. Take care and enjoy the movie.

Just looked up the Perfect Collection at Reel, and they have it listed as R rated. The DVD I have is a well deserved NC-17, so either A) Reel is wrong about the rating, B) the movie has been edited, or C) it's a different movie altogether. Just a thought.

I have Urotsukidoji perfect collection on TAPE and am looking to unload it. Any takers? Send e-mail to [email protected]. Will respond to all inquiries.

isn't there a Legend of the Overfiend movie and a Legend of the Overfiend OVA? I know the movie was rated R and the ova which had the same story as the movie but they cut it up into five different parts with more scenes added to it giving it the NC-17 rating, but all of these were on vhs.

Interesting - not knowing a whole lot about the genre, I would have guessed that the original version would be NC-17, and then be edited for an R rating. Instead the original is an R, and then they added some "dirty bits" to get an NC-17? Kinda cool, or at least weird... can anyone confirm this?
Either way, something to think about.

I'm not entirely familiar with the DVDs of the "Usotsukidoji" films, but here's how the VHS tapes went:
There were two movies, "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend," and "Urotsukidoji II: Legend of the Demon Womb." Also released was the "Urotsukidoji Perfect Collection," a five-tape set. Tapes one through tree contained a longer, much more explicit version of the first movie. The last two tapes contained a *shorter* version of the second movie.
Parts three and four were also released, each as multi-tape sets (sorry, I don't know how many off the top of my head).

I love anime but this is just porn animation. I feel less dirty watching a porno. At least it isn't small girls getting raped by demons and sodomized with assorted weapons. This SUCKED!

Hey, it's not that bad. *giggle* However, I do enjoy the normal hentai anime much more. Urotsukidoji is great if you can overlook the sex scenes. I am still deciding what to spend my $40 Amazon GC on: Urotsukidoji: Perfect Collection DVD (Jan 10?) or Dreamcast Game -Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Feb 14?).
