With all the hoopla over SPR and TTRL, I thought it was time to pull out The Big Red One and check it out. I always liked that movie, but like any 2.0DVD it needs 5.1 to really kick ass during the battle scenes. Many good tank scenes could have been awesome like SPR, instead they were only fair. Nice transfer, nice sound but certainly not primo like the latest releases. The D-Day landing wasn't nearly as horrific or grand as SPR but showed the struggle and time frame well. For collectors of war movies this is a good option. Like many DVD's being released it could have been so much more, but then not every older movie can get such total treatment.
