The movie is great - as a DVD it is only so-so. It is presented full-screen - I think it is most likely not pan/scan since it was originally filmed on 8mm, and was presented 1.66:1 in theaters (so says imdb.com), so it is probably open matte. The transfer is ok, with some grain and artifacting. The audio is mono, and kinda thin. It is basically what I expected it to be - an ok DVD for a very low budget classic blaxploitation film.

The big problem with not forcing the matte to 1.66 is you get to see things (like boom mics) that probably were not displayed in the theater picture. I would've preferred a forced matte (I guess some TVs can do that?) myself.
For an old film like Dolemite, I thought the transfer was pretty good... much better than video transfers I've seen of it. The sound is thin as well, for sure... they probably could've cleaned it up better (ala Night of the Living Dead) but as it is its alright.
