From chapter 10-17...do you notice that the top and bottom bars are divided and each bar now have a smaller half which is slightly lighter? Anyone notice this? It's not my 3109 player. Is it a alien 4 mastering thing?

I can't answer your question since I don't own the DVD, but . . . how's the picture/sound quality of "Alien 3" & "Alien: Resurrection"??? I heard that 3 & 4 are much superior to 1 & 2, probably since they're newer films . . .

Anyways, I have 1 & 2, but never really enjoyed 3 . . . thinking about buying 4 if the picture/sound is of demo quality . . .

. . . what do you think???

I think Needlz that the best one with the video quality is alien 3. Alien resurrection's picture is not too sharp. The video looks soft. But i love the movie! I thought is was a piece of crap because of bad reviews, but I loved it! I love all of them! Part 4 is like sigourney weaver with generation x. I enjoyed it. Oh the sound is much more louder and better. But with all the intensity of part 1 and 2 it makes may forget about the sound stuff that people were talking about. Truth is alien looks impressive. Fox did a great job on that one. Then aliens (alien looks better)is so intense i cried when the movie ended. (almost cried. )Of all of them my favorite is aliens. Alien 3 and 4 rocks!!!

Thanks for the input. Yeah, if I can find a good deal, I'll try to complete my "quad-rilogy" and buy 3 & 4. I really didn't want that 5th disc anyways . . .

I agree . . . "Aliens" is by far the best one . . . Hicks, Hudson, and Vasquez rocks!!! Also, The transfer on "Alien" is amazing for a film from the 70s!!!

"Alien: Resurrection" is below the first 2, but I liked the action and I figure the sound on the DVD should be blasting!!! "Alien 3" . . . if I find a good deal, I'll give it another try. It's been awhile, so maybe I'll be able to appreciate it this time . . .

Wonder if someone who owns alien resurrection will tell me if they also noticed that black bar thing i was talking about. My disc works great but just wanted to know.

I didn't see those black lines that everyone was describing. Watched about 2 minutes into each chapter from 10-17 (Alien 4).
BTW, I have the Sony S500D. Maybe you have a bad disk? I tried looking for it twice just to be sure that it's not there by watching other chapters.

It's the player. The toshiba 3109. The disc is not bad, it's not the disc's fault. How do i know this? Stupid a$$ me i forgot that i have the panasonic A300 player way below the shelf. I never thought about it! sad. I put alien 4 inside and what do you know...the weird bars are not there! I thought it was an alien 4 mastering thing but it's toshiba's downconversion thing. But remember that alien 4 in the toshiba does not affect the picture, in the middle i mean. When viewed on a widescreen tv...those bars are gone so there's no problem for me anymore.
