DVD Talk review of 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Unrated'
I read Preston Jones's DVD review of Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Unrated at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=21880 and...
had I known there was going to be an unrated version, i never would have bought the PG one.
Is there any way to figure out how many versions of a DVD will be released--before I spend money on another PG version?

I may be wrong, but I'm fairly certain there was a lot of Internet scuttlebutt at the time of the original 1-disc PG-13 release about there being a later, more lavish (and unrated) 2-disc version ... to answer your question about how to find out about future versions, just scan message boards or DVD news sites you trust - they tend to know pretty soon after an initial release whether there'll be a double (or triple or quadruple) dip. These days, it's almost a given that popular/theatrically mishandled/victims of studio merger/infamous and/or classic movies will get more than one DVD release.

I highly doubt this new version would get a PG-13 (in his commentary, Liman specifically points out several instances where he had trim and/or rework scenes in order to get the PG-13) but yes, none of the original bonus material made the jump here.
