I show films for English classes sometimes, and I've always been choosing 'good' movies..... I thought I should soon show something bad, but not like Barbara Streisand-bad but more like Mystery Science-bad.

I would love to show MST3K films in my school,
but one thing necessary is English Subtitles for my students to follow along, and Rhino doesnt provide them.

So can any of you recommend "So Bad It's Good" Movies on DVD that include English subtitles?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation(aka TCM 4/ aka Return of TCM).

Both are on dvd from major studios and have closed captions and subtitles.

The Airport Terminal Pack would probably fall into this category. I do enjoy those films for reasons unclear.

Excluding the original Airport of course, which was nominated for 10 Oscars(including Best Picture) and won 1(Best Supporting Actress).

The original Airport can be viewed as a major cheesefest today with it's old fashioned sensibilities. Since the subject matter is played safe and tv friendly all the way 1950's style


Earthquake is bad filmmaking all around and delivers laughs based on that.

The Swarm is another hilariously inept camp fest similar to Earthquake in bland direction,inane ploting and every cliche in the book. Some moments are jaw dropping hilarious!

All and any Uwe Boll film,mainly his current films of the 2000's House of the Dead, Alone In The Dark and BloodRayne.

Again if your class is a college and the students adult...and or the parents are cool with their kids(if in high school) viewing such material. These more explicit films offer endless amounts of camp value.


A few more non-R rated films though that are corny as hell(& funny because of that) are Glitter & CrossRoads(the Britney Spears film..not the 1980's film!) and the original Valley of the Dolls.

As for explicit, I personally have no problem with it,
but I'd rather not have explicit or gory horror for the school.

(I did show 'A History Of Violence' last month, but the gore was in a few shots for minor moments)

I'm actually really excited about the fact Warner might be releasing Gymkata in December. now THAT's a movie that would be in this category.

I see Strange Brew was already mentioned but that was what first came to mind for me but it may be a bit tricky depending on the age of your class since it revolves around Beer. Although since it's for English class, you might be able to get away with it based on the Hamlet themes and references in the film.

Also I really enjoyed Night of the Lepus in a so bad its good way. Can't beat giant killer bunny rabbits for a laugh...

MST3K: The Movie has closed-captioned subtitles. Pretty well done, actually, with the movie dialogue separated from the SOL crew's riffs.

(Finding it on DVD is another question - it has been out-of-print for years. However, the closed-captioning is on all versions, including the VHS release and presumably TV-broadcasts.)

And it is the only MST3K release that has any type of subtitles.

As Mike Nelson (roughly) says, nothing else approaches the pure Road House-iness of Road House.

Funny as hell movie... with, IIRC, only one word in English.

I also highly recommend the new Gamera trilogy from the 1990s: Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris. This is a very entertaining trilogy and, IMO, the best Japanese Monster movies since the early 1960s.

The Gamera series can be quite funny as being bad,
just like a lot of other 1960's Japanese scifi films,
which I of course have an appreciation for.

But since they are dubbed, it wouldnt work well for my school.....
I'd rather have English language films.

I also thought of "Over The Top", "Rhinestone" or "Kazaam" but then again,
those 3 are just "So Bad Its Bad" category.....
