Good review. A quick correction-- Hellraiser:Bloodline (i.e. Hellraiser IN SPACE!) wasn't actually DTV. I can still remember the traumatic experience of being dragged by my friends to see that in the theater.

As I recall, Bloodline was originally supposed to have a wide theatrical release, but after the "Alan Smithee" fiasco the studio just gave it a limited release instead and shuffled it off to video in short order.

Thinking back, I absolutely do remember seeing theatrical trailers for Bloodline, and Box Office Mojo indicates that the thing opened on over 1,400 screens. (And also that it somehow grossed over $9 million!)

What is it with long-running horror series that has screenwriters screaming "Let's do it in SPACE!" I mean: Hellraiser, Leprechaun, Friday the 13th ... in outer space???

To me it sounds like fan-fic stuff that, logically, would NEVER see the inside of an actual shooting set.

Yeah, but I think sometimes that's the point. Leprechaun in Space is one of the most intentionally campy movies I've ever seen, and considering the sad state of my DVD collection, that's saying a lot.

Didn't the whole "in space" thing start with John Carpenter? Didn't they ask him to do Halloween 6, and his proposal was to do it in space (something that was actually mocked in the film itself)?

I also saw Hellraiser 4 in the theater... you'd think that movie made more than $9 million considering how many of us here went to see the thing.

You neglect to count how many of us demanded our money back!

I recall being SO excited to see Bloodline in theaters,since the trailers/tv spots looked so 'cool' and scary(& the Fango articles/pictures were interesting). Thank god my mom was afraid of us going downtown to the only theater showing the film and since it was R rated,probably could'nt get in(I was 13,my little brother 7).

So both me and my little brother missed seeing the film in theaters and it was a blessing in disguise. Since the horror that awaited when we watched it on cable was mind numbingly awful that we turned the channel after 30 minutes.


I have since attempted to see the rest of the film in small spirts. It is to painful to sit through the entire thing as a whole. Boy is this film just terrible all around!


So while Stephen Kings comments on horror fans and the appeal of horror may be true in most cases(ie-we're loyal fans..when a sequel sucks..we hope the next one makes up for it..and keep seeking them out like junkies in a need of a fix). I can honestly say I am NOT excited whenever a new Hellraiser sequel is made.

I actually rented Inferno hoping it would be decent and turned it off halfway through. Since it was so damn boring. I then caught Seeker on cable and wow what a mind numingly awful film that is!


So you can consider me a fan of the REAL Hellraiser films(which is basically only 1-3) and could live the rest of my life,without seeing one milisecond of the DTV sequels.

That's exactly how I felt about part 3, but man was that a let-down.

The first film is the only one in the series I would consider "good", though part 2 has some replay value. Everything after that is unwatchable, as far as I'm concerned.

The Hellraiser comic was pretty cool. Why couldn't the sequels be more like that?
