Lucasfilm restricts advanced reviews of their titles. I believe the limit is one week before release date.

DVDfile had their review of Star Wars Episode II up over a month before its actual release date.

This is not meant as a threadcrap, it's just an honest question.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm just curious:

Could there possibly be anything in a review of the Star Wars films coming to DVD that would sway you (or anyone) either way or possibly impact a buying decision?

I'll go out on a limb and say:
- there will be very nice looking audio/video transfers on this set
- also a few minor tweaks that will incense diehards but otherwise be of great indifference to a lot of people
- some tolerable extras

Seems like if you are a Star Wars fan, the anticipation for this one makes getting this pretty much a foregone conclusion.

I'm what you would consider a casual fan - at best - but I'll snatch it up right away. I expect the quality will be above average, I already know what the films are about, so what else is there to consider?

There's a lot of brouhaha on the net about flubs and FX glitches still being there despite the recent work by ILM and Lowry digital. Personally, I'm curious to see if the 16x9 and 5.1 help make up for the fact that it's the SEs.

Sure. If in an upcoming review it is discovered that the ORIGINAL versions which initially played in theatres in 1977, 1980 and 1983 respectively were on these discs as easter eggs, THEN I would consider buying this upcoming set.

you'll see a flood of info on the set starting next wed (9/8).
that's when the embargo is lifted- a press junket was held back in July- nobody is allowed to discuss anything that they saw/heard until the 8th.
i'm sure with all the rips around, there are legit review sites that already have access to the real discs, so i wouldn't be suprised to see the reviews start to pop up then as well.

Speaking for my site, we tend to get Fox and MGM product a little earlier than most and the STAR WARS trilogy has yet to land on our doorstep. Granted, we were denied PHANTOM MENACE when it came out, but ATTACK OF THE CLONES arrived at least a month early, so make of that what you will. With Fox recently deeming PASSION OF THE CHRIST barely worth sending out to reviewers (because pre-sales were through the roof), it's entirely possible they'll take a similar tack with STAR WARS. Anyone from DVD Talk got theirs yet?

I was in Suncoast Saturday, and on the in-store TV screens they were playing Star Wars: A New Hope.

I watched the Vader/Obi-Wan duel, and I could swear the light sabers were fixed, IE Obi wasn't a holding the unlit stick in that one shot. Sort of surprised to see them playing it... IIRC, the previous special edition still had the bad light saber shot.

It was pan and scan, though.

Ugh...will we ever have a Star Wars post without OT comments? I get so sick of them.
