The character development of Boromir and Faramir from the EE is absolutely essential to the story, and if you find that boring, I have to wonder why you'd bother to watch even the TE again, let alone buy it.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
While I don't think TTT will ever be quite as good a film as FOTR, the EE of the second film improves it much more than the first film was improved by its longer version. No one should hesitate to get it.
