I've been looking for a review as well, but haven't been able to find one yet.

Here is a review which compares the Criterion with the R0 UK fremantle release.

http://www.mondo-digital.com/strawdogs.html

I have gone for the Criterion because of the documentary and the chance they may have cleaned up the transfer.

Here's another:

looks like a winner but remember there is a region 2 extras laden special edition of straw dogs that been released in the U.K for the last 4 months and its much cheaper. Here's a review of that here:

Limited edition?

Just picked up the Criterion's Straw Dogs today. I found a Sticker on the cover: Special Edition/Available For A Limited Time.
Any idea about that?

So when this is described as the "uncut" version, does it differ in any way from the anchor bay release? I seem to remember my copy of that (before I sold it when i heard about this ) claiming the same thing....

I preordered this from Amazon too....and i don't expect it before next week, but really can't wait!!!

Having received this on Friday and watched the film and the extras....all I can say is wow. This joins Brazil as the best Criterions I now own. The film looks amazing....the extras are incredibly good, particularly the Peckinpah documentary. Criterion has simply outdone themselves with this one. Get it. Now.

My copy is shipping from amazon.ca in 7-12 days and I pre-ordered it no less.. I guess the demand for this title is big or they didn't get enough stock or something. Looking forward to it tho!

I'm curious about this, too. Especially since Anchor Bay's version is listed at 118 min. and the Criterion is 117.

I was actually listening to them when they were pimping it on a DVD segment the other day. They really built it up which was pretty cool and it was a change from what they usually do--a segment on what DVD's are awful.

Just finish watching the movie..Excellent transfer as usual from Criterion..

The commentary was outstanding also never heard of this guy Stephen Prince b4 but man oh man did he give us some insight into this flick!!..He basically gives us a break down of every scene shot by shot..Great Stuff!

The 80 min documentary was very good too even though it was obviously left over from the 80's or early 90's since some of the speakers are dead (Jason Robards, James Coburn, etc)

All in all highly recommended!
