Requiem For A Dream : DC

I may do a blind buy on this one. I love dark psychological movies, especially ones dealing with aspects of addiction. I've been wanting to rent this film for awhile. Low and behold I went to Best Buy today to check out what they had, and I saw Requiem for A Dream : Director's Cut for $9.99. That seems like an amazing price, considering this Artisan release has some good extras, and anamorphic picture. Anyone recommend this DVD, especially when it's $9.99? Renting it at Blockbuster would be half price of that price.

First off and most importantly, the version Blockbuster carries is EDITED. So if you do rent it, get it somewhere else that carries the uncut director's version. But judging from the quote:

"I love dark psychological movies, especially ones dealing with aspects of addiction"

this is probably right up your alley. It's an excellent film, very dark and very psychological. For $9.99 it's a steal!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not a fan of renting DVDs, especially for over $4.00 and especially since you mentioned that particular movie is edited at Blockbuster. Looks like I'll be heading back to Best Buy tomorrow to get the Director's unedited version! Thanks again.

I second that! One of my favorites. By the way, Deep Discount DVD has the 2-pack of Requiem DC and Pi (also an excellent film IMO) for $12, so you might want to check that out.

What is Pi? At $12 it sounds like a good deal. Could you give me some more info on Pi thought? You may save me a trip to Best Buy.

It's from the same director as Requiem for a Dream. It's about a mathematician who's trying to find a pattern in the stock market. It's also a little bit dark.

WOW! That movie is beyond intense. A little over the top and presumptous, but overall the film was decent. I'd give it a 7/10. Well worth $9.99. Jared Leto rocks! I haven't checked out the extras yet, but will soon. Anyone else get confused when you first pop in the DVD? I thought that I didn'thave my DVD player hooked up because of that JUICE commercial.

It caught me completely off guard as well. I though that somehow a channel was interfering with my DVD player channel, and couldn't figure out what was going on. Great move!

Nothing much to add here cept that it's indeed a great and very dark and sometimes disturbing film. Definitely a good thing to show to teens who may think about doing some of those hard drugs. I've seen that Pi/Requiem DC pack at BB for a pretty good price, btw.

And I too was caught off guard by the Juice commercial. I got mine off eBay last year and after it took me forever to recieve it, I was almost positive I'd been ripped off with a damaged disc when is saw it. Luckily I was mistaken. Great disc.
