i know the movie has already been in release for quite some time, but i was interested if anybody at dvdtalk could tell me if this film is worth buying or not. how is the digital transfer? how is the sound quality? how are the extras? any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you like the film (or either of the actors) it's a no brainer. It's been awhile since I've seen it so I don't recall the specifics. However, I also don't recall being too disappointed in the xfer so it's atleast passible 
WRT extras it's not really up to the standard of some of the Criterions, but overall it's worth buying.

it's too bad it's not anamorphically enhanced, otherwise i would buy it in a heartbeat.
by the way, speaking of this film, i hear they're making a remake of it now.. directed by Jonathan "Silence of the Lambs" Demme.

great purchase. one of the most entertaining commentaries I've heard, as tends to be true with commentaires that feature the director and the screenwriter.
