Who has a widescreen television, and how much did you pay? Also, what's the size and res? What's your favorite thing about it?

I'm flush with cash I am thinking of picking one up. I am just curious how much I'll need to spend nowadays. Please chime in if you have a model you want and you know the price and features as well. I am particularly looking to spend less than $2,500, if possible.

You have limited your choices with a $2500 budget. I won't list my set as it cost almost double that. Unless you just want to know anyway.

You might state what you want to do with this set (%DVD, %TV, %Satellite, etc.), what size you are interested in, and what DVD player you have (progressive or non-progressive).

DVD (and some TV). No Cable or Sat. I am mainly interested in widescreen aspect and great picture. Assume I have a Progressive Scan DVD player.

Are you looking for a tube or rear projection model. I have a 53" Pioneer rear projection model that totally kicks ass, but costs abotu $1000 more than you have budgeted.

You can get a Mitsubishi 55" for just under $3k. I think the 46" is just about $2500 or so.

Does anyone sell widescreen tube tv's? I thought they were almost all RPTVs.

In general, here's the widescreens I see out there:

Toshiba TW series
Mitsubishi
Pioneers

Who else is out there? Maybe my goal in this thread is to create a list of 10 or so WS TV choices so I know what's out there.

I have the Mitsubishi 56" and couldn't be more happy. If you perform some searches, you can probably find it for under 3K at some online sites. A little more than you want to spend, but it's worth it.

I just picked up a Mitsu 55857 for 3150 (free delivery) from a local store and it's amazing! It's much larger in the great room than it appeared to be in the store so I'm even happier. It offers progressive scan inputs, too. I believe the 55807 has progressive scan inputs, too, and it costs about $500 less.

There are widescreen tubes up to 38" that I know of. Up to 34" there are numerous makers but they are more expensive than RPTV. Personally I am a direct view fan but I do like plasma too. Plasmas are expensive though (over 5K for a new HDTV compatible I am pretty sure)

There are a number of direct-view HDTV's: SharpVision 34N-WF5H, Panasonic Tau CT-34WX50, Toshiba CW34x92, Philips 32PW850, ProScan PS38000, RCA Model F38310, Unity Motion UHD-3200 (monitor only) to name a few.

I had the Toshiba model for awhile but returned it for the SharpVision; I'm very happy with it.

These are exactly the sorta units I am looking for, and now looking at. Previously, I looked like I was gonna have to take the Toshiba TheaterWide 40" for a lack of other options.

How much did you pay for the Toshiba and the Sharp... and what turned you off with the Toshiba unit?
