16:9 Converter For Wega

I have one of the original Wegas, which I bought a couple of years ago. It does not have a widescreen option. The model number is KV-36FV1. I read in some press release a while back that Sony was going to market some sort of converter box to enable WS. Does anyone know if this is available, or if there is another way to go, other than getting a new set? The set is great other than thiat. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked to see if you can do the anamorphic squeeze in its service menu? Some models can.

If you don't have a menu selection for 16x9, then you'll have to set it up in the service menu. Depending on your set, this can be simple or quite in depth. On my older Sony KV-35V35, it wasn't simple because squeezing the picture created all sorts of other geometry problems. Once I was able to solve all of those issues, the picture was fanatastic.
I wouldn't recommend this for novices, it can be fairly dangerous to enter the service mode of a TV.
