Welcome to HT Hardware. And what would a post from you be if it wasn't a question

Anyway, rears are best mounted either to the side or behind the listening position, perhaps a couple of feet above ear level (seated)

I used some heavy duty screws with the plastic drywall inserts to mount my rear peakers to the walls...
I wouldn't weaste $$$ on stands or mounts unless your talking about a speaker that is not a dipole...

Hey desmondp, nice to see you hear. Mine are mounted on the wall. Home was wired for HT and got speakers that came with mounting brackets.

monopoles (most speakers) s/d be placed to the rear of the listening position; dipoles s/d be placed to the sides and arranged to "fire" along the side walls. in either case, the speakers s/d be about 3+ feet above your ears when seated.

jpcamb most speakers will benefit from being placed away from the walls/ceiling (unless they were designed for this placement, e.g. Linn). but for rears, i'd wall mount them as this is typically more convenient and unless you have really good equipment/speakers and are a very critical listener, the difference will be negligible.
