Okay, this 40 inch widescreen TV is fantastic in most respects but I'm having a little trouble getting it to calibrate right. Using AVIA I'm unable to get the picture to bloom when using the contrast test pattern. Anyone have a suggestion on where the brightness should be set in order to complete the calibration?
On a related note I notice that white text on a black screen causes an anoying halo effect from time to time. It's like the white light is reflecting off of the enclosure and hitting the screen (which is probably exactly what it is.) Anyone seen this?

Using Avia, I set the brightness for my TW40x81 on 57 (which might seem a little high). My only suggestion is to have a friend act as a "second eye" to help with those calibrations.

Try setting the contrast to the point where each of the boxes is twice as bright as the previous. Many sets now have good enough power supplies to avoid blooming so you have to eyeball it. Also look for the point where you lose the distinctness of the lines in the brightest box. You want to be below that.

I don't use Avia or VE or any of these cal discs...maybe one day though.
For my TW40X81, try these settings:
CONTRAST 27
BRIGHTNESS 45
COLOR 60
SHARPNESS 40
TINT 50
COLOR TEMP WARM
This may or may not be a little dark for your taste, but bright outdoor scenes look PHENOMENAL...
