What is the best Widescreen (16x9) TV out there??? Picture wise, and overall quality. I'm not looking to break the bank, but something bigger than that Toshiba 40" i keep seeing everywhere.
Anyone know of any deals?????
Thanks

I'm also looking (actually dreaming) of getting a RPTV and have heard good things about the Mitsubishi line. Even the 55" they have over at Sears has been getting decent reviews. (Sorry I don't remember the model number..it's on their website thought)

Depends on what you want to watch. Best all-around for off-the-air, cable, etc., and DVD is Pioneer Elite. Some may say it breaks the bank, but it's worth it. There are possibly some better ones for particular types of viewing, such as DVD only due to using 8 or 9" tubes instead of 7". They get very expensive and I'm not sure if they're really better, they just have the potential to be. Mits in their largest, highest line has one, as does Philips and Runco.

From what I've been reading here, the two top contenders are Mitsubishi and Pioneer. I have a Mits 55807 and absolutely love it. I've seen them for under $3k recently.
Part of the reason I went with the Mits was their "promise" that it will be upgradeable to whatever the digital standard becomes. Didn't want it to become obsolete in 6 months.

I don't own a widescreen yet, but I have owned three Mitsubishis: one 32" and two 40". (I also have a Hitachi big screen with a great picture, but poor ergonomics.)
I can't say enough about Mitsubishi. They do everything right--including the often overlooked remote control. In a combined 13 years, never had a problem (except carrying a 40" TV up a flight of steps in the rain).

I gotta get my two cents in for the Panasonic PT56WXF95. I have had one for over 6 months and I love it. It's under 3 grand now, at most places, and it's one of the few that supports 480i, 480p, 1080i, AND native 720p. Check out the reviews at audioreview.com. I think it scores higher than the Mitsubishi models listed and it's half the price of a Pioneer Elite.

Gotta put in my vote for the PT-56WXF95 from Panasonic. I've had it since Nov '99 and love the picture. No problems for me and gotta love the support of native 720p.

I know people are fond of pointing out the Elite series, but actually the series right under it is exactly the same electronics. I think the Pioneer rep said the only difference on the Elite is the piano black finish, and the fact that the cabinet can be built into an existing wall. So why spend the extra cash?
