I can't hear dialogue very well when using the Pro Logic setup. DVDs with DD5.1 sound phenomenal. I guess the worst I've hear is LDs that are Dolby Surround only. I've tried increasing the center speaker volume, using the automatic setting which is the same as output, but they didn't make a difference. This is actually my parents system and I don't remember the speaker mfg., but I know they are about 100 X better than my Infinitys.

Has anyone been able to make LDs sound as good as they should with this receiver?

I'm assuming you've experimented with different sound fields? You've tried hitting Sound Field and choosing Auto Format?
That's the extent of my Sony ES receiver knowledge.

I tried automatic settings (AFD). That didn't sound a whole lot better, but still not great. Voices were out of both the left and right speakers, not the center.
