Sony wega Trinatron Question

I was wondering if the Wega Trinatron sets were really that good and if so are they really worth the extra money? If not what T.V. would you recommend? I don`t want to spend anymore than $1500. I was mainly going to be using it to watch DVD`s and HDTV`s are just to expencive. Thanks.
