This is one of these things that is best done by moving the sub to different places in your room and leaving it in the space that sounds the best to YOU. There are all sorts of theroies where a sub should go and it is, in my opinion, the hardest thing to set up right. It's mainly just trial and error.
Putting the sub next to a wall will increase the volume and putting it a corner will increase the volume even more due to reflectivity. Mine is next to my TV in between and behind my left main. That's what sounds best to me.
