I have not heard anything bad about it, but at the same time I would not consider it WRT my primary DVD player. If it's a secondary player then I guess it might be OK. Otherwise I would stick to the major brands like Pioneer, Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic. You may pay a little more but you will get much better peace of mind.

Hello,
I picked up one from Buy.com a month or so ago when they had them really cheap. It is essentially a DVD-ROM drive in a stand-alone unit. There have been some reports of occasional 'stuttering' during playback, because the drive is a relatively slow one. My main reasons for getting it was as a backup for my Panasonic and to allow me to watch R2 DVDs. It has a few hidden menus that allow you to switch regions and to toggle Macrovision on or off. The player can also convert PAL output to NTSC output, allowing R2 PAL DVDs to be played on NTSC televisions. I wouldn't want to use it as my primary player, but it is okay as a backup and for occasional use with other region DVDs that you just have to have before they become available in R1 (Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 1, for example! )
