I’m excited. I got 2 under 4” Bose speakers that wirelessly connect with each other and to the soundbar. It’s going to be an aural feast. They are back speakers that I’m just putting on end tables ear level and I’ll be good to go. Having the whole shabang. As much as I really want to watch tonight, I think Serenity will be my first to devirgin my sound system. Meak im sure to most here, but a feast that I’ll happily gobble up. I already have the app down loaded for my subwoofer, but once hooked these babies up to wireless receiver and find in app to control, I gonna be blasting that shit. Neighbors be damned!!! ;)

i never knew surround sound at home until today. it was like dialogue in the front and a laugh track coming from the rear speakers. it was amazing. can't wait to sink my teeth in with my first movie: Serenity.

Confirm something for me, I wouldn’t hear the news in the rear speakers, correct? Only stuff with 5.1 I would hear rear speakers? I watched Friends and heard the dialogue in front and the laugh track was on the rear speakers. That was fun. And forget about Serenity. That just shook my room. They were all working. So, I’d hear movies but not like news and stuff?

should syndicated older shows like Seinfeld look better on a 4K tv or because it wasn't filmed in 4K, it would look muddy or grainy better to put it?

I haven't done extensive comparisons but I would imagine the media used to record the show would show a difference. I would hope others with experience with TV show on 4K would comment.

Oh, since you have a Sony x700, here's video of fixes if you experience skips or freezes.

Are you taking about the 4K disc of Seinfeld or a cable tv broadcast of Seinfeld? Seinfeld was shot on film and scanned at 4k for the discs, so it should look better. If you're just watching a cable broadcast on your 4k tv, then that's not going to improve anything.

thanks for that Tom. i set the settings he mentioned. so far (knock on wood) i haven't had any problems with the few I've seen, but it seems like it can't hurt. appreciate you man!

I'll have to try this. I haven't seen discs lock up in a while, but I also am not watching as many movies in my home theaters since joining the AMC A-List a year ago. But my experience is that in 99% of my disc freezes, I could see a greasy finger print smudge on the outer rim, and buffing it out fixed the issue. And the freeze always happens towards the end of the movie, it's not randomly happening. Also now by habit, when I take a movie out of the case, I glance at the bottom for a smudge, and that probably by itself has eliminated my freezes.

The deal with Seinfeld is Sony did everyone dirty by using different aspect ratios between the 4K and Blu-ray sets. If you want the original 4:3 aspect ratio, Sony has only included it on the 4K set. One of the more shameless money grabs by a studio in a while.

so, what is the deal with switching HDR or is it DV on and off? my player seems to show what is encoded on its own. if HDR it says HDR. if DV it shows DV. i just don't get what i have to close and when. thanks.

If you are watching a disc with Dolby Vision, you need to turn Dolby Vision on. If the disc is HDR10 only, you need to turn DV off.

All UHDs have HDR - but only some UHDs have Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision is basically HDR on steroids. Some Dolby Vision discs make somewhat suspect tone mapping choices, so it's not always the best option.

That shouldn't be an option. Your choices should be on or off.

But even if your choice is auto or off, it still needs to be switched manually. This is the #1 issue with the Sony players and no matter how many times you question it, there's no way around it.

I was just looking in the settings yesterday (because of this thread). HDR has the auto option (and should be set to auto). DV is either on or off manually (there is no auto option) depending on the disc you are playing. 24p output should also be set to auto.

DV not switching automatically isn't actually that big of a deal. Most of my 4K's are DV so I just leave DV on and turn it off if the disc doesn't have DV.

Ok, ok. i see the option to turn DV on or off only. HDR is set to auto. now, if a movie just says HDR on the box, i should shut DV off and when there is a DV logo i should turn HDR off? do i kind of get it? most of the 4K's I have say HDR.
