Kenny,
I justchecked the RS website, and the product #'s I listed in my earlier post were rg-59, not rg-6....are the cables you're using from radio Shack? If so, do you happen to know the #? I'm sort of trapped in a non-retail area and I would rather just drive over to RS and not have to wait for an online order to arrive...

and, more importantly, is the difference between rg-59 and rg-6 all that important?

No difference for this application. 75 ohms is what you want. I'm using several sets of the 12 foot ones and they look good to me.

maybe i'm insane (my wife surely thinks so). I went and got some 75 ohm, rg-59 cables and re-hooked the component video.....I can still see the bands...I really, really, don't want it to be the tv....I've already returned one (it's a panasonic ct-27d10 if that rings any alarms for anyone) because the picture was slanted ever so slightly up--about 3/4 of an inch from the left side to the right...enough, though, for my OCD to kick in and drive me batty...this one doesn't have that problem, but the component, and only the component, video source gives these hues....could it just be the settings? If I turn the brightness down a bunch, they dissappear, but then everything's too dark. My dvd is a Toshiba 1200, and I've got the player set for enhanced black....should I disable that and turn down the tv's setting? Anyone?

I find the enhanced black to be too dark. Try it without that and then you won't need the brightness turned up so high. And you have calibrated the set with Avia or Video Essentials, haven't you?

Your setup is very close to mine. I have a Toshiba SD-1200 hooked up with component cables to a 27" Toshiba 27A40. I just got the TV shortly before christmas and love it so far. My choice was between the Panasonic you have and the Toshiba. The only thing I like better about the Panasonic was the flatter screen but when I found the Toshiba for $279 I decided real quick since I couldn't find the Panasonic cheaper than $349.
Sounds like your cables shouldn't be a problem. I am using the enhanced black on my DVD player. I'm using AR component cables which cost more but shouldn't make a difference between using 3 75 ohm cables on either 27" TV.
If you do decide to take the TV back you might want to try the Toshiba 27A40. It has a great picture and no geometry problems. But the screen is noticably more curved than the Panasonic.

yes, you can. in fact, you can even use cheap qulity rca cables. they do NOT make a difference as far as i can tell, and i've tried. i ended up returning my expensive component cables and using plain ole CHEAP rca's. it looks fine. same goes for the coaxial digital cable. just find one that is 75 ohms...

I'll have to say I disagree dude. I've found when i used to set up HT for a living that we got hiss from cheaper stuff and they tended not to last anywhere near as long as the high quality stuff.

There's a site called the"Audio Asylum"
that has a section for cables. You'll find
lots of info and answers to your questions
You can also check out "AudioReview"
site. They have a forum for just cables.
If you do go with RS get the coax with
a foil/tinned cover instead of the copper
braided sleeve.Home Depot and Loews has
cable as well. You can just make your own.

Digging this thread up from the grave... I just got a rptv last week with component video inputs. I had a bunch of mid-quality RCA cables laying around and used those. 2 of them are marked as 'audio' cables and one as a 'video' cable. A couple posts above say there is no difference, while a couple other posts say the audio ones are different than video. Should I go and replace the audio cables with video versions, or is audio indeed the same thing?
I don't think I have 3 video-rca cables laying around that are all of the same brand/quality, so I'd have to buy some new ones just to experiment.
