I was thinking of buying my girlfriend's family a DVD player for Christmas. I was looking for one around $200. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best one at this price? Are there any differeces between players in this price range? Thanks for the help and happy holidays.

The DVD-RV30 by Panasonic has been compared to the $1000 DVD players. People are amazed at the picture and sound quality produced by this player. It has been rated very highly at epinions.com (#2) and audioreview.com.

I own this player, and the picture is extremely crisp and clear. I highly recommend this player!

I highly recommend a low-end Toshiba unit... Especially the SD1600, or SD1200

Pioneer 333

Plays CD-R's and CD-RW's as well. Better downconversion than the Toshiba's.

I say go with the RV30, it actually has a DD decoder. I am sure the family doesn't have a bad a$$ system, therefore they could get a crappy 5.1 ready reciever and feel cool cause they actually have "surround sound." Oh yeah, and because I own a Panasonic RV20, and love it.

You are wrong, the RV-30 does not have Dolby Digital decoder. It only has a subwoofer output. By the way I also don't think that the Pioneer plays cd-rw's.

nah, the pioneer does play cd-r and cd-rw's. Also, I think ddives meant the Rv30 has a DD and DTS outputs, but there's no need for the built-in decoder, since your receiver should have one anyways.
