Not sure what the Sony 1200D is.
However you should only be getting surround sound with DVD's. TV programs, tuner (radio ?) and CD's don't usually have surround sound although there are some CD's with DTS 5.1 soundtracks and you can get surround sound from TV if you have a DD compatible satellite receiver.
