I try to play SPR on my player (JVC XV 501) and after I put the disc in the player reads it for about 5 seconds, then the tray opens It does not even get to the menu of the movie. This is the only movie that I have that this happens. I have already tried the reset sequence that JVC recommends but this did not help either.
I know its not the disc because it works in my DVD-ROM drive.
Anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do?
(I'd prefer not to send the player to JVC as I heard it will take weeks if not months before getting it back)
Thanks in advance!
Mark

I'm sorry to say that if it's anything like I experienced. This is the beginning of the end. And even if you decided to send it out it will be expensive and chances are they still won't get it right. It happened to me and then I had to just give up and buy a new one. Mine won't even play a music CD for more then 15 minutes before it starts skipping and then spits it out. Sorry I couldn't be more help. If you have a strong stomach, I suggest that you check out how many people are sorry they bought this one at audioreview.com

So many people have had the same experience with JVC's 501 and 701 that there are rant threads that are still active here. JVC does not know how to fix it, although they will take your money.
I have a 701 that has defied the odds and came mysteriously back to life and has been in the operational mode for a few months now. JVC has a reboot section on their website, you can take a crack at that. Loading a dvd upside-down might shake it to its senses. It could heal spontaneously.

In Asimov's fictional future, humans had to be forced into space. I thought it unlikely but NASA is proving me wrong.

JVC dvd player is a piece of crap ! I bought the 701 initially and it would not play 2 of my discs. I was so angry that I returned it and got a Panasonic A320 (within 30 days).
Since then, I do not have a problem playing any discs. I am lucky to have escaped from this crap. If u notice, the JVC player is made in China, my panasonic is made in Japan.
