Many receivers have a loudness button that boosts
bass and treble while listening at low volume. Which is a more efficient way of turning up the volume on a receiver, especially one that's only 60 watts? When using the loudness button, my maximum listening volume for most all DD and DTS movies is -33 in the range 95 to 0. When loudness is turned off, I have to go all the way to -18 to reach the same sound level. Does one method tax the receiver more than the other?

Yes, b/c bass frequencies need more power to reproduce loudly.

IIRC, the loudness button does not affect treble, only bass frequencies.
