I'm in the market for a projection TV. My primary concern is durability. Not so much physical, but I work at home and leave CNBC on all day (8-10 hours). Overheating is a concern.

My primary restriction is to get a large size screen - at least 53". I also want something that looks good with my DVD player. I'd like 16x9, but I'm concerned about the "burn-in" issues with viewing a 4x3 image as much as I do.

My questions are: (1) whether I am being paranoid about the overheating/screen burn concerns, (2) do manufacturers honor the warranty on overuse/screen burn, and (3) any recommendations?

Thanks.

You don't have to worry about burn-in if you use the expanded formats for 4x3 TV. Stretch modes fill the entire screen, some brands better than others.

I don't think 8-10 hours a day is too much, but you need to keep the brightness turned down. And if it's turned down too much, you won't see the video very well during the day unless you can darken the room. As for overheating, I can tell you my set doesn't get hot at all after being on for many hours.

The problem you will have is the ticker not moving and causing burn-in. I think that's a real concern and you shouldn't use a RPTV for that purpose. And I think that would void the warranty. Get a regular TV for that.
