Widescreen HDTV Maneuverability

I'm currently designing a home theater in my basement. My only concern is how I'll be able to get a widescreen TV (approx. 55"-60")down the stairs and around a fairly tight corner. Does anyone know whether those big TVs can be turned on their sides for a move? Or, even better, do any of the models separate into two pieces--the base and the monitor?

I have the Toshiba 56" wide sceen and needed to have a crane lift it to my desired location over the balcony. You cannot take it apart.
However, my friend bought a Mitsubishi big screen and had it taken apart to have it moved. He worked for Mitsubishi and told me that most service agents can do this.
Good luck

I am sure that the Toshiba RPTVs can be taken apart! My friend recently purchased one. The retailer took it apart for him. They did it for free! Toshiba will do it for a fee! (I think the price was $700 Canadian...)
Hope this helps....

I have the Toshiba DW65X91 & originally was going to put it in my finished basement. Your setup sounds the same as mine, at the bottom of the stairs is the wall & you have to go right a step to get down. Since the tv is 5' high by 5' long, plus about 3' wide, there was no way to make the turn. There was clearance for 5' feet all the way at the bottom, but not 5' up the stairs. I don't see how the Toshiba could be taken apart. The salesman said he didn't think so, plus the whole body is one piece- it doesn't have any seams at all where the base/speakers are. So we ended up putting it in the main living room. After the initial flip-out, my wife doesn't mind it there now. Plus when I watch my old tv in the basement, it's hard to hear with the water heater, the heat/air, and the dehumidifier going off every couple of minutes. The only advantage would have been the complete darkness of the basement. And it is easy to move in a room because it's on wheels, but if you have to lift it, it'll take about 4 people.
