I'm looking to buy a DVD player that will play double sided dvd's without manually going up to the player and flipping the disk. A friend has the Pioneer dv 525 and he claims his will do this but i'm having trouble finding out if any others do. if someone could please list a couple that do this or somewhere i could find out i would appreciate it.

I don't think 525 will do it either and do not know of any player that will..

No DVD player will, but it's not really necessary. Only a few early releases were double-sided "flippers", and some have been reissued since. However, most discs are dual-layered, or RSDL, meaning that the movie exists on two layers on the same side of the disc. All players can handle this layer change automatically and virtually seamlessly - sometimes with a slight pause - but do not require you to do any flipping. Try to find a list of the "flippers" on the internet and avoid purchasing them, but they are relatively rare nowadays.

I'm pretty sure Sony has a DVD changer that will read both sides of the disc without manual flips.

dfcc is correct (at least about the DVD changer). Sony's new 300+1 DVD changers, the DVP-CX860 and 870, offer 2-sided playback. Crutchfield and Sony's home page have more info about both. Now if I can only find a review...

I stand corrected - the information on the Sony is at Crutchfield but not at Sony.com (WTF). Still, this feature is because it's a pain in the ass to flip discs in a mega changer, not because DVD movies are flippers. This is most likely to access the special features that are often put on side 2 of a disc.
There's no indication that the Pioneer 525 can do this, although some DVD/LD players made by Pioneer do flip, but this is only for LDs which were flippers. My point is this: don't hold off on buying a DVD player - they're not flippers and so you've got no excuses: buy one right now!
(Thanks for pointing me to Crutchfield - that Sony looks like it might make my Xmas list just in time.)

can someone give examples of a double sided dvd?

I have never heard of such a thing. Dual layered. But not double sided.

Re: Thejammy-

Goodfellas. (watched it last night for the first time, and all i could think was "hey! this movie sucks,it just ended all abrupt!?")

I probably still would've bought it anyway, but it is just aggravating that they never updated the disc to make it dual layered (does that require any work at all?), and never saw it mentioned that it is a flipper on the package.

Edited to correct small gramatical errors.

The previously released version of "SEVEN" was double sided. I think I will sell mine back as soon as I get my Platinum Series version.

A couple of others are Amadeus, The Color Purple, Das Boot, Goodfellas, JFK, The Pelican Brief, and A Time to Kill.

They are commonly know as "flippers" and many of the early DVD's were like this before the RSDL technology more commonly used now was perfected.
