Mooky7,
The 1200/2109 DOES NOT have a decoder. The lowest level entry players usually do not.
(Toshiba 3109 does).
You will have to buy a receiver w/a built in DD/DTS decoder, but that is very common and probably better. That's another $200 min for the low end Kenwood or Sherwoods. $300-$400 for a very good Onkyo, Yamaha, Sony, ...
Just hook up the 2109 dig. output to the digital in of the receiver.
How are you getting your sound? An old receiver or computer hook-up?

Do you have any idea if the 4109 supports DTS? I may have to change my receiver since the Pioneer D466S may not support DTS.

hey i am looking to buy a DVD player also and have been looking at all the models. I don't have a home theater system but am looking to get one also. I just had a question about the DTS/DD decoders adn the DTS/DD "ready" players. It's my understanding that if you have a DTS/DD ready player, it means it has the necessary connections to hook up to a DTS/DD receiver/decoder on a home theater system and get the same sound quality as the built in decoders on a player that just has speakers hooked up to it. is this correct? cuz i was kinda looking at the toshiba 6109c with the built in DTS/DD decoders as opposed to the cheaper ones that have the connections. any thoughts or suggestions on this? thanks =)

TriPod,
If you can buy a separate DTS/DD receiver, don't buy the SD6109. I own this player. Here is a list of cons I am aware of:
1) Not enough power;
2) no digital audio out;
3) cheap clip-on speaker connectors;
4) opening tray will automatically switch the mode to DVD (I hate this);
5) poorly designed remote;
But the picture and sound quality is quite good for a player/receiver at this price, just don't expect it to rock your house or something like that.

Blade... You may want to copy this thread for future "newbie" reference. I have a feeling that it'll eventually drift out of sight and get filed away. It's much too good to let go to waste.
Nice job!

Thanks.
I actually already have a copy saved to my hdd, but I should probably update it, since it's getting a little out of date.

Can't believe this thing is still around!
I updated some of the stuff above, but I haven't been following this stuff much lately.
Please post any updates, corrections or questions you might have.
