Hello everyone. I've been following this board for about a week now getting information on a home theater system to purchase. This board has been a great resource of information, and I look forward to posting more in the future. This is the system that I have purchased. I know its not top of the line but it really has gotten me into home theater and im sure the upgrade bug will hit in due time
Tv: Sony Wega 32inch fv3216
DVD Player: Pioneer DV-333
Reciever and Speakers: Kenwood Htb-503
This setup is going in a bedroom so it should be adequate for awhile.
I do have a few questions for the board though. Is it worth it off that bat to upgrade to monster cables or will the ones supplied probably suffice? I know the kenwood unit comes with wires but they probably arent the best.
Is it nevesary to calibrate the tv or should it be fine from the factory. I plan on purchasing the avia home theater setup dvd. Is it pretty easy to use to calibrate the television, and speakers.
Thank you,
scott

scottcart,
welcome to dvdtalk. whatever you do, stay out of the other forum. they are very weird in there.
as to your questions. your sony wega will most certainly need calibrating. i would buy avia as soon as possible and get the tv and the speakers calibrated. this is the single most important thing you can do for your home theater.
as for the cables....i went to home depot and purchased their brand of 12 guage speaker wire for about $.27 a foot. very inexpensive way to upgrade your speaker wire. as for the component cables, you probably won't get much of a difference from buying more expensive cables on your system unless you get some sort of interference.
the cables that came with your kenwood are probably very adequate (even the speaker wire), so i wouldn't replace them unless you have a specific problem. now...when the upgrade bug hits...that's a different story!
cranky.
btw...that is a very nice system for a first time home theater!

Welcome to the forum ScottCart. I would agree with just about everything Cranky said (except the advice to avoid the other forum). In order to get your system performing to its highest level you will have to do some calibration. The equipment is almost never set up perfect when you take it out of the box. Either the Avia or the Video Essentials should work fine. There is no need for you to apologize for your system. It is a solid system whether it is your first or not.
