Help! Is my (brand new!) receiver broken?

I just hooked up my Pioneer Elite VSX-35 with the M&K THX 750 set - both brand new.
I have HORRIBLE sound when the main speakers are on the A-speaker output. It's full of static / overload / cutoff kind of noise.
I just hooked up the front speakers - disable surrounds and sub in the settings.
When I move the speakers to the B-speaker output - it's perfect crisp sound.
Is my brand new receiver broken from factory? *grrrr*
