I recently bought a new TV and some speakers. They were kinda just sitting around my house for a while, then when i got organized, i decided to put the speakers next to the TV. Turns out the speakers are not magnetically sheilded, so obviously they are now having to sit akwardly far from my TV. My question is; is there any way to sheild these speakers, because i LOVE them but i dont think i can live with them so far from the TV. Thanks for the info, -Andy

I don't know about shielding after the fact. I'm guessing it may be a thin lead sheet or something like that they use at the factory.
However towers only need to be between 2-4 feet away to avoid interfering wioth signal. Is this not the case? How close do you want them? As far as a center channel goes you probably need to buy one magnetically shielded from the factory.
Anyone knwo what they shield with?
Welcome to the forum BTW!!

Andy,
You don't want your front speakers close to the tv. To get a more full effect they should be placed at least several feet away from the tv on both sides and slightly angeled to a sweet spot in the room. Is there any reason you need them close to the tv? Why do you not like the speakers further away from the tv?

Sheilded speakers use a dual magnet stack. One magnet is placed against the magnet of the speaker and that second magnets attraction pulls in the magnetic field of the other magnet keeping it in the box. I think that way is the norm now, back in the day I do think they used a metal to sheild the magnetic field, but I am not sure what metal it was.

Currently the speakers need to be about 4 feet away to prevent any screen discoloration. The problem with that is that the tv is in an inset in the wall, and there is not enough room in the inset for the speakers to sit next to the TX without discoloration. So they end up sitting 4 feet in front of the TV, which isnt really a problem, except for the fact that they kinda look cheasy sitting in the center of the room. Anyways, i guess i am stuck with my current setup though. BTW, these are just the fronts, the center is sheilded, so it car sit atop the TV. Thanks for your help -Andy.
