Haha, image is everything. Whould you buy a DVD player from Samlose?
Actually, I did a little research. Samwin is a manufacturer in China just like Apex. However, I could not find any reviews on this machine.

DVD is still a pretty new industry, unlike VHS or personal computers. At this time even major manufacturers can make a few lemons (i.e. Panasonic) - BUT at least you have the backing of a major company if/when things wrong.
Going w/knock-off, no-name brands at the stage is very risky. IMO, MORE likely to fail or have problems. Less likley to have customer support or quality performance.
I found the Apex player to be unreliable: about 1 out of 4 disks had problems like locking up, skips, or no play - especially the newer releases w/lot's of menus. The picture quality was not that much better than that from a VCR, much worse than the budget models from Sony, Pioneer, or Toshiba. In spite of it's MP-3 and loophole capabilities, it just wasn't worth it for my family. I made my son sell his unit after he ask me for the nth time to help him w/his player.
Now you are talking about getting a no-name copy-cat model of the APEX!
Good luck getting a software upgrade for that thing...
