Hey guys- quick question for you:

My new Samsung LCD TV is wireless-ready but needs a USB wireless stick to work. My BR Player is set up wirelessly to my home network.

So, if I connect my BR player to my TV with this cable, will the TV get an internet signal?

Secondly, if my BR player can access the internet with no problem, is there any advantage to ensuring that my TV can too? Does the TV have any firmware inside that needs updating from time-to-time?

No, the HDMI 1.3 cable will pass along audio and video signals, but not broadband data.

Possibly. If your TV offers access to a service like Amazon's Movies-on-Demand, Netflix, or Pandora that the BD player does not, then it might be worth it to have both connect wirelessly.

Maybe. It's up to the manufacturer to determine if a firmware upgrade will add anything significant ... or even ever be released.

Well I imagine that would depend on the specifications of the TV and/or player. OP - what TV did you buy? If it only supports HDMI 1.3 it cannot utilized the ethernet channel. Even if it has 1.4 it may not support pass through (that's a guess though).

I stand corrected. However, if the OP actually has both a TV and BD player that support HDMI 1.4 and enable the HDMI Ethernet Channel, then he'll need to pick up a new HDMI cable as well that supports it.
