DirecTV RF remote died and made my DVR incommunicado!

Hi There,
My RF remote died and I ordered a new remote from DTV. I cannot get it to work, it is not communicating with the DVR. DTV tech support says that the DVR is bad, but I dont believe it! It works fine manually, but I dont have access to all the functions, plus, I have things recorded on it that I need!
The remote really did die, and the new one works, but it seems that I have to somehow return the DVR to the factory settings. I tried resetting it, taking out the card, but no luck. Any ideas? At the least I'd like to get the recordings that I cant replace off of there.....
Thanks,
Karl

Did you try the remote set-up? You can change it from RF to IR. Just a thought...

Did it and fixed it! Thanks! Can you believe that DTV tech support thinks my DVR is bad and they are sending a replacement!

Yes. My harddrive died and I had the wife call to get a replacement, I had already tried all the steps (red button, unplug and wait, etc.) before I left for work so she wouldn't have to do it. Initially they wanted to charge us $20 for the replacement even though I have the protection plan because she didn't want to repeat the steps I had already taken. When she told them I had already done those things their reply was that "I wasn't a DirecTv technician" so they couldn't trust what I was saying. Needless to say I had her go through the steps again to avoid the extra fee. Turns out I was right of course but these guys answering the phone are just reading from a script so if the programmer didn't think of it they don't know what to do except send another DVR. Glad it worked for you though!
