Need Advice on a DVD, HDTV, etc. Hookup
I hope this is the right discussion group for this thread....
I'm attempting to hook up an HDTV, DVD Recorder, A/V Receiver, and HD Cable Box.
I've got:
Component video running from the Cable Box to the HDTV.
Component video running from the DVD Recorder to the HDTV.
Optical Audio running from the Cable Box to the A/V Receiver.
Optical Audio running from the DVD Recorder to the A/V Receiver.
Coax running from the Cable Box to the DVD Recorder.
I get great audio and video when viewing/listening to either Cable TV or DVDs.
However, when attempting to record a Cable program (either HD or non-HD, either live or from the DVR) to the DVD Recorder, I'm just getting Video, with no Audio.
What hookup am I missing?
My equipment:
Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD Cable Box/DVR
Samsung PN50B560T5F Plasma HDTV
Go.Video VR4940 DVD Recorder + VCR
Yamaha HTR-5740 AV Receiver
Thank you.

Does your cable box have Svideo and analog audio outputs, also? I would run those to the DVDR.
I meant, are they active at the same time as the component/optical you are already using?

Thanks for your help.
Yes, my cable box also has Svideo and analog audio outputs, and I believe that they are active at the same time as the component/optical I am already using.
I will try that, but I'm curious--why run analog audio from the cable box to the DVDR? Does Coax not transmit the audio signal?

It seems the coax should have audio.
Is it that you're not recording audio or just unable to hear it through your receiver? Maybe recorded audio isn't going out through the optical connection. Have you tried analog cable from the DVDR to the receiver to test your recordings? Have you taken the recorded DVDs to another player?

Yeah, it should be active through the coax. But you'll get better picture with the Svideo by far. So I'd call it a good upgrade, anyway. Then you can work out if audio is still an issue.
