I just returned the SONY DAV-S300 I bought 2 days ago. Just not enough power or bass. I'm looking to spend around 700 to 800 dollars for a new dvd player to replace my old one, a DD/DTS receiver and a set of speakers that aren't too big (my wife won't let me get anything bigger...that's why I went for the DAV). I'd like to stay with SONY if possible. Thanks.

You can find the Sony DVP-S360D DVD player for $195 at BuyDig.com and the Sony STR-DE835 receiver for $319 at MoreAudioVideo.com.
This leaves you with approx $250 for speakers. Not sure what you could get with that, but at least you'll have your Sony DVD player & receiver to get you started.

Sony has a small speaker package that I picked up at sears for about 225 a couple weeks ago, the model is something like sv-315. I'm sure on the number but not the letters. It's probably the best you'll do with the 250 or so left after the previous post. I also got the str-de835 and I love it. It does run a little warm make sure you put it in as open a place as you can. I'm planing on getting a computer fan and ac adapter and screwing it on the shelf above the receiver just to feel a little safer.
