Is there an advantage to having a decoder built into your dvdplayer if your reciever already has one?

...also, does SONY have any other deals besides the Columiba House deal for new purchases (like free Blockbuster Rentals)?

Nope, none that I can see. The decoders built into DVD players are usually nowhere close to those in receivers. If your receiver has a decoder, I don't know why you would need one in your player, as well.

I'm sure you could buy higher quality detached decoders, but I don't see any real downside other than a lack of upgradeability. FWIW they are usually quite decent decoders.
