Hi Folks. This is my first post, so I am sorry if this subject has been covered before. I purchased the APEX player in order to play other region discs, and have come across a problem, and I would like to know if anybody can confirm the same. When playing region 2 DVD's that are DVD 9 or 10, they simply do not play. You just get digitized gibberish on the screen. To be honest, this really sucks, so I need to know if anybody else has noticed this, or did I get a bum machine? My "regular" region 2 PAL discs play just fine!

It sounds like a defective Apex. The defect rate of the players is very high. First lets try something. Can you tell me what you changed in the loopholes menu. The only things you should have changed were Macrovision to off and region to 2 or bypass. Sometimes bypass will have problems with certain discs so try changing it to 2. If you messed with anything else (especially CSS) change it back to default. CSS must be on auto or it will cause discs to scamble and lock up.

Wow! I got real excited for a minute, because I hadn't thought of changing those settings. Unfortunately, same situation. So you think I got a bum player?! God, I hope not. I bought it months ago from Circuit City's Web site, and I have heard that APEX no longer makes the model with the "Special" menu!!!! Any other ideas? Thanks!

It sounds bad. Have you tried region 1 discs that are dual layered? If you have to send it in for repairs they will disable the loopholes menu. You might check http://www.nerd-out.com/apex/

They have a lot of people there that have dealt with Apex problems. Maybe someone on the forum might have a suggestion.
